When choosing your look for the day, it is important to draw from things that inspire you. Don't worry so much about what other people will think of your outfit; choose what you think looks nice and makes you feel comfortable and cute. And don't be slutty.
Some things that inspire me, and influence the things I wear would definitely be:
1. Luna Lovegood and other characters from the Harry Potter universe. Just check out that wild style!
I would love a dress like the one Luna wore to the Christmas party in the sixth movie!
So here's the challenge: take crazy things you see in movies, ice sculptures, buildings, airplanes, Lady Ga Ga, etc... and tone them down. Sample small elements of the over the top in order to add fashionable flare to everyday outfits.
2. Vintage Clothing
If I could wear nothing but vintage clothing everyday I would. Some tricky things about this style are: finding clothes that are your size (you can't just ask for the next size up/down), aren't completely weird and ugly, and aren't an obscene amount of money. Sometimes weird is okay, and sometimes ugly is okay, but unless it fits you well, or you're good at alterations, you need to SHUT. THAT. DOWN.
3. Handmade things
There is nothing much better than a good hand-knit scarf made by a friend, or an amazing accessory that you can tell everyone "thanks, I made it myself" when they lavish you with complements. It's a real ego booster, and besides, crafting is fun, relaxing, cheap and helps you feel way less lazy while you watch television for hours on end.
Anyway, those are just a few things that inspire my wardrobe.
